We had Paul at Green Country Building Materials build us an insulated 20x30 pole barn with 4" slab. Paul and his crew of 2, Todd and his son Gregory built it in 2.5 weeks or so. Had to pause for weather a few times, had to build a road also. We are happy with build and looking to build another one soon. Paul answered all our questions and walked us through the process.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

It comes down to where the wood sits. Anything touching soil needs a ground contact rating, and structural posts set in the ground need the highest rating there is. Above ground material is fine for deck boards and rails. Look for the tag on the end of the board, and ask us if it is not clear. Using above ground material in the dirt is the mistake that costs you the whole build. Structural posts for a post frame barn are the clearest example.

Hot dipped galvanized or stainless, not plain steel and not electro galvanized. The chemistry in modern treated wood eats ordinary fasteners and hardware. This catches people out because the fastener aisle looks the same either way. We will point you at the right box when you pick up the wood.

Both are rated sheathing and both carry a stamp telling you the span they are good for. Plywood handles getting wet and drying out a little better, which is why the edges of OSB are often sealed. For most walls and roofs either will do the job. Tell us the framing spacing and we will get you the right thickness.

Off the ground, covered but not wrapped tight, and stacked flat with spacers between the layers so air can move. Wood left in a puddle or sealed under plastic cups, twists, and grows mold. If the build is a few weeks out, that hour of stacking saves you the boards you would otherwise cull.

Species and grade, treatment rating, length, and how much of it you need. Longer boards and higher treatment ratings cost more, and sheet goods move with the market. We price your actual list rather than quoting a rate, so if a substitution saves you money we will say so. Get a free quote.
